Training Recommendations for Programs

Small Programs / Child Care Homes
2 or fewer classrooms and fewer than 5 paid staff

• All staff complete the Protective Factors training, either on-line or in person
• At least half of staff complete the core trainings plus Understanding Trauma and Children’s Exposure to Violence

Medium Programs
2–5 classrooms and fewer than 15 staff

• All staff complete the Protective Factors training, either on-line or in person
• At least one teacher per classroom and all program administration staff complete the core trainings plus Understanding Trauma and Children’s Exposure to Violence

Large Programs
More than 5 classrooms and more than 15 staff

• All program staff and at least half of the administrative staff complete the Protective Factors training, either on-line or in person
• At least 25% of program staff complete the core trainings plus Understanding Trauma and Children’s Exposure to Violence. New cohorts of participants are trained each year, and ultimately, the entire staff is trained.

Multi-Site Programs

• At least 25% of the central administration staff completes the Protective Factors training
• Each site complies with the recommendations above according to its size
