Maryville Academy continues it’s unwavering commitment to healing children, strengthening families, and building a better community.
Maryville Academy provided a series of Awaken To Your Potential (ATYP) trainings and Café Talk conversations for both staff and residents at the John and Mary Madden Shelter, which provides emergency housing for DCFS wards who are pregnant or parenting. They have found that parent leadership trainings offered by Strengthening Families Illinois increased stability – both emotional and physical – and contributed to reducing the runaway rate at Madden.
As a result of the Strengthening Families Illinois work, Maryville Academy is looking to enhance its services by further development of the Crisis Nursery (the possible addition of home visitation services). They will explore taking some of the core concepts of SFI to the homes of struggling parents and encourage further participation in things like parent cafes and other SFI parent leadership opportunities and trainings; as well as provide additional SFI trainings to its staff and clients at the Madden Shelter.
